ABOUT THIS WEBSITE:

It is a COMMUNITY FORUM

It was started as a means of keeping residents informed, reporting facts, and sharing ideas about unpopular and destructive decisions made by (your) township officials. Its' goal is to preserve and protect our beautiful village from ALL DANGERS, be they environmental, physical or political.

The name STOPTHETOWER.NET came from the desire to ALERT our neighbors. The divisive and unwise decisions made by (your) township officials needed to be brought to everyone's attention. BEFORE IT IS TOO LATE. ONCE THAT TOWER IS UP, IT WILL NOT COME BACK DOWN!

However, after the CLEMIS TOWER issue is resolved, this web site will remain on line to make it easier for residents to get involved, share new ideas, post notices and take back local control of our lives. We will also keep the web site name. Since many people refer to Oakland Township Hall as the Tower on the hill (unapproachable, unreachable, untouchable, unyielding, etc.) we feel the name is appropriate.

STOP THE TOWER!

The Charter Township of Oakland Planning Commission accepted public comments on a REQUEST for SPECIAL LAND USE and SITE PLAN APPROVAL for a 256ft. tower and emergency communication antenna for the purpose of improving radio communication for emergency workers. The proposed tower would be located next to the OAKLAND TOWNSHIP HALL between the township hall and the entrance to BEAR CREEK PARK. Many feel this is not a well thought out plan.

At the conclusion of this meeting many residents felt that the Planning Commission was not responsive to their concerns, including:

  • Location of the tower
  • Radiation emissions
  • Other sites that had been considered
  • Because of advances in technology, this tower will be obsolete soon after it is constructed.
  • The negative effect on property values of the residents within sight of the tower.
  • When the tower becomes obsolete in a year or two, we then will have a 256ft. METAL MONUMENT to somebody’s LACK OF VISION that we will have to look at, maintain, and deal with.
  • The example used to justify the need for this project was an incident that occurred at a Ford assembly plant in Wixom in 1996. It is highly unlikely that a facility of that nature would ever be completely covered by this system. According to Oakland County documents, even the new 52nd 3rd courthouse in Rochester Hills, can’t be adequately covered without an additional $75,000 in renovations.
  • This system does not work well in school buildings.
  • If this is such a grave public safety issue, why have public utilities refused tower space in their easements for this project?
  • Oakland Twp. does not have a local police department, and instead receives law enforcement services from the Oakland County Sheriff. This is an Oakland County Project, therefore we may have biased representation from local law enforcement.
  • The township board has known about this project since September 2002. The "dead spot" for radio transmissions is bordered by Rochester Rd., Buell Rd., Collins Rd., and Gunn Rd. That is why the original location for the tower was in the Blue Heron Park on Rochester Rd. The elevation at that site is higher, and therefore the tower would only have be 199ft tall. NO LIGHT REQUIRED.

Some of the people who attended the above mentioned meeting felt that this issue was already a done deal; that they had no say in this matter.

PLEASE DON’T FEEL THIS WAY!

At this meeting we were told we live in America. WE KNOW THAT. We will continue to act like Americans.

  • We will protect our right of private property ownership.
  • We will look at all facts and MAKE OUR OWN DECISION.
  • We will NOT BE TOLD WHAT WE NEED OR DON'T NEED by ANY government agency.
  • We will insist on access to all information.

Somewhere along the line, government agencies forgot that THEY WORK FOR US. We never forgot that.

(Anybody here want some Canadian Trash?)

THERE IS ALWAYS AN AGENDA!

Sometimes that includes:

  • Covering up mistakes
  • Justification of the unnecessary
  • Making excuses for cost overruns
  • Unwieldy expensive projects (SOMEBODY ALWAYS GETS PAID)

Look at ALL the facts about CLEMIS.

Pay attention to what is being DONE IN YOUR TOWN. Ask the HARD QUESTIONS! YOU ARE PAYING FOR THIS.

Check the CLEMIS site to see how your tax dollars are being spent.
A free society requires effort and sacrifice. Our sons and daughters are fighting and dying half-way across the world to give people the right of self determination.

The content of this web site was prepared by Americans who live in Oakland Township. We have no affiliation with any group other than our subdivision associations. We are not builders or developers. We are not concerned with retaliation from any township official for approval of future projects. We are private property owners standing up for private property rights! We care about police and fire protection as much as anyone, but we are saying LOOK AT WHAT YOU ARE BUYING INTO AND DOING TO YOUR TOWN!
